UpEnergy Announces First Verra CCP Issuance for Clean Cooking

Verra has issued UpEnergy the first carbon credits with the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label under its clean cookstoves methodology, VM0050. CCP labels indicate that the underlying methodology meets the high-integrity requirements of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM).

Since conducting the world’s first Kitchen Performance Test for a carbon project in 2008, UpEnergy has focused on improving the accuracy of impact measurement. This CCP-labelled issuance for energy-efficient stoves in Nigeria (VCS2673) reflects strengthened methodology and conservative quantification, reinforcing confidence in the monitoring and transparent accounting while supporting technology development and local manufacturing.

By replacing traditional charcoal stoves with locally manufactured, energy-efficient designs, UpEnergy reduces greenhouse gas and smoke emissions while helping low-income families save money. The project also reduces pressure on forests, saves time for women and children, and creates local jobs.
