UpEnergy’s CCP-labelled Nigeria project receives Letter of Authorization for CORSIA eligibility

Following our recent announcement of the first CCP-labelled cookstove issuance under Verra’s VM0050 methodology, UpEnergy’s Nigeria project (VCS2673) has now been issued a Letter of Authorisation by the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The VCS2673 project is now both CCP-labelled and eligible for use under CORSIA, combining strengthened methodology with host country authorisation. In total, the authorisation covers close to 4 million tonnes of CORSIA-eligible supply across both VCS2673 and GS11210. We are grateful to Nigeria’s NCCC, under the leadership of Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi, Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, for providing clear authorisation under Article 6 and advancing its implementation.

Recent aviation procurement activity indicates that buyers are placing increasing value on projects that are conservatively quantified, transparently monitored and clearly authorised for use under CORSIA, with CCP labelling providing a clear signal that the underlying methodology meets the high-integrity requirements set by the ICVCM.

The CCP-labelled issuance for energy-efficient stoves in Nigeria (VCS2673) reflects this, applying strengthened methodology and more conservative quantification, reinforcing confidence in monitoring and transparent accounting, while supporting local technology development and manufacturing. The project is also expected to receive SD VISta certification, providing independent verification of its sustainable development outcomes.

UpEnergy continues to roll out CCP alignment across its portfolio, alongside progressing Article 6.2 authorisations and building CORSIA-eligible supply across its core markets. This builds on the recent securing of Letters of Authorisation in Tanzania, with further authorisations progressing across additional countries.
